National Sanctity of Human Life (SOHL) Sunday was instituted in 1983 by President Reagan and is honored on the Sunday closest to the day on which the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions were handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973. Since then, more than 60 million unborn children have lost their lives. Commit to supporting women and men facing unexpected pregnancy and promoting a culture of life in the New River Valley. National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday will be celebrated on January 21, 2024.
What can I do to honor this event?
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is commemorated by thousands of churches and individuals who desire to take a stand for life. Pastors and teachers give special Sunday school lessons and sermons, some churches ring bells and others sponsor prayer and candle vigils. Some supporters participate in pro-life baby showers. Many Christians prayerfully petition the Lord for mercy and humbly fast that the fundamental right to life will be honored in conception and until natural death.
How can I partner with the PRC?
To highlight the sacredness of life, the Pregnancy Resource Center of Southwest Virginia partners in a nationwide campaign distributing bulletin inserts in local churches. If you would like to assist us in reaching your church, please call our Blacksburg office at 540-402-4306 or fill out this request form to receive bulletin inserts and find out other ways you can participate.
The PRC is also happy to send a representative from our organization to speak to your church or group about the sacredness of life and how it relates to our ministry. Presentations can last from 3-60 minutes, depending on your group and your requested purpose. Please call the Blacksburg office at 540-402-4306 or fill out the form above to request a speaker for your church’s Sanctity of Human Life commemoration.
Many churches who choose to participate in the PRC’s Baby Bottle Campaign launch their campaigns in conjunction with their Sanctity of Human Life commemoration.
